The Austintown Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay schedule February 7 due to fog.

AES/AIS FIRST LEGO League Jr. Expo
Blue Legos  

The AES/AIS FIRST LEGO League Jr. Expo will be held on Thursday, February 7 at 6:00 PM in the AIS Cafeteria.

Fourteen teams with students ranging from Kindergarten through fourth grade will be ready to showcase what they have learned during their Mission Moon Challenge. Each team was tasked with building a Moon Base and programming at least one element on the base.   

The students have been working on the challenge since October, with the help of the Fitch robotics and NHS students. The students meet once a week after school to work on the project.    

First LEGO League teams research real-world problems and
are challenged to develop solutions along with designing, building and programming a robot using Lego Mindstorm technology.

On Tuesday, May 20th the Austintown Intermediate School’s 5th Grade Choir will sing the National Anthem for the Pittsburgh Pirates versus the Baltimore Orioles baseball game at PNC Park.

Chloe's Angels

Chloe is an 11 year old sixth grader at AMS. The youngest of Jeannie and Josh Cox’s four girls, she has lived in Austintown her entire life. Chloe was born with Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus, Cerebral Palsy, and Arnold- Chiari Malformation and she needs our help.

Students at both Austintown Elementary and Austintown Intermediate Schools have been learning new technology by using many of Google’s available tools.

2014 Fitch Volleyball Little Spikers Program

Every Sunday starting September 7, 2014 and ending September 28, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. will be the Little Spikers Program. Grades 3 and 4 students will be from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. and grades 5 and 6 will be from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

 

Fitch Volleyball 5th & 6th Grade Camp

There will be a 2 day Volleyball Camp for girls entering grades 5 and 6 on June 12 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on June 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

5th Graders Go Green

Mrs. Alicia Burnfield’s 5th grade science class is learning about the environment and recycling over the next few weeks. For their unit project they created a Go Green Book. The assignment asked students to write down reasons why they they should protect the earth, and then explain what actions they could take to ensure the earth’s safety.  The students took pictures and filmed video of items that they recycled for their book.

Austintown Fitch Veteran's Memorial Ceremony

On April 10, 2014 a ceremony will be held in the Austintown Fitch High School main lobby at 1:00 p.m. to dedicate the new Fitch Veteran’s Memorial. The Veteran’s Memorial is in honor of two 1962 Fitch graduates who are war veterans, Lt. Charles Brown and Sgt. James Prommersberger.

AMS 6th Grade Junior Achievement Fundraiser

On Wednesday, March 26 from 11:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., Naticakes will be helping out the 6th Grade Junior Achievement program with a fundraiser. Just stop in at the Naticakes on 5549 Maoning Ave.; Austintown, OH and mention AMS! A portion of each transaction will go towards the 6th Grade Junior Achievement program. AIS Literacy Night

Austintown Intermediate School’s Literacy Committee will be hosting their first AIS Literacy Night on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the school’s Cafeteria and Gymnasium. Families are invited for an evening of book reading and celebrating Dr. Seuss.

AIS Mrs. Patrick's Class Make a Patchwork Quilt

One of Austintown Intermediate School’s 3rd grade teachers, Dana Elias-Patrick has started a project with her 3rd grade students to design a quilt. They all read the story, The Patchwork Quilt, where a grandmother creates a quilt made with different pieces of cloth that represent different memories.

AIS Explores Math Through B.U.I.L.D.

This school year, Kelly Castronova, an Austintown Intermediate School 3rd grade teacher and Math Committee Member has helped introduce a new learning tool for students, called B.U.I.L.D. This tool allows students to explore mathematical topics through hands-on learning.

AMS 5th Graders Learn About Endangered Animals

Austintown Middle School 5th grade science teacher, Alicia Burnfield worked with her students to teach them about endangered animals, and how they affect our world.

Jump Rope and Shoot Hoops for Heart

During the month of February, Austintown Elementary and Intermediate School students are taking part in the 20th Annual Jump Rope and Shoot Hoops for Hearts to raise money for the American Heart Association.

AIS Art of European Tapestries

Miss Jennifer Houston, Austintown Intermediate School’s art teacher, is working with her 4th grade students to learn about tapestries from Europe and the art of making miniature tapestries.

February and March Late Starts Changed to Full Days!

In consultation with our teachers, principals and parents, we have decided to cancel the two-hour delays that were scheduled on February 19th and March 19th as a result of many days we have had to cancel or alter this year.  These will now be full, normal school days giving our staff increased instructional time prior to standardized testing.  We are dedicated to providing the best possible education to our students and we appreciate your understanding as we make adjustments to gain more instructional time with them.

This Saturday, November 23rd, Fitch Falcon Football will battle against the St. Ed's Eagles in the Infocision Stadium at the University of Akron on Summa Field. AIS Principals to Sumo Wrestle at Lunch

The Principals of Austintown Intermediate School (AIS) issued a challenge to their students and the students met it!  In an effort to encourage students to use a program called First In Math (FIM), an online tool to practice math, the Principals agreed to Sumo Wrestle if their students could reach 200,000 practice points.

On November 7, 2013 Vince Colaluca and the Austintown Jr. Women's League, cut the ribbon for the dedication of the bench that was donated from the Austintown Jr. Women's League to Austintown Elementary School.
Austintown Schools Business Academy Students Showcased in Columbus

The Austintown School District shared one of its outstanding programs during the annual Student Achievement Fair on November 12 at the 2013 Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference. According to OSBA, “The fair showcases the many innovative projects and programs districts have created to boost student achievement and engage youngsters in learning and growth.” ...

 

AMS and Fitch Conferences
AMS and Fitch will still hold parent-teacher conference tonight, November 26th.  The roads in Austintown were in good condition as of 3:15 PM.  If you are unable to make it out tonight and planned to attend, please follow-up with your student's teachers with questions and or concerns.

Opening Celebration

The Austintown Local School District we be celebrating the opening of AES and AIS by hosting Awesometown 2013 and a community celebration on October 6th.  The day will be full of events from 9:00 AM until the closing ceremony at 5:00 PM. 

Austintown Kindergartners "Believe" in the Falcons

On November 21, 15 kindergarten students from Austintown Elementary School (AES) visited Fitch High School to wish the undefeated Falcon Football Team good luck with this Saturday’s playoff game.
