Health Care Team

        
Austintown Local Schools is fortunate to have team of healthcare professionals to meet the medical and wellness needs of our students and staff.                     
This team is comprised of our two district nurses along with staff hired through a partnership with Valley Care. Please use this information provided to learn more about who the members of our health care team are, what they do, and how to contact them. They all play a key role and work together in ensuring our students and staff are safe and cared for while in school.             
       
       

Our Austintown Local Schools (ALS) District 

Nurses and their roles:

        
  • Our District Nurses (RN & LSN) ​are AEA members, have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, and cover all of the Austintown Local Schools. Both of our District Nurses (RN & LSN) ​are Licensed School Nurses and their duties include ensuring that district policy and procedures are followed when providing care for our students, conducting screenings and evaluations, and developing individual health care plans (IHCP) for students. Any medical concerns and treatments regarding our students should be directed to one of the District Nurses (RN & LSN)​to serve, evaluate and/or implement changes in the child's medical needs while at school.

Our Valley Care (VC) team members and
their roles:
  • A Medical Assistant (MA)​serves in the school clinic to assist in basic first aid need, provide medication administration as needed, do vision & hearing screening tests, make sure the vaccines are checked, ensure emergency forms are completed, and compile health concerns. The Medical Assistants (MA) ​are trained by Valley Care to conduct their assigned tasks and duties.

          
  • A Clinic Coordinator (RN) ​serves as an administrative resource to MA’s and is stationed in the Fitch Clinic and, for the time being, is staffing the Fitch Health Center. The Clinic Coordinator (RN) ​also responds to emergencies when available, performs drug screens, and assists in the Falcon mobile medical van.

       
  • A Nurse Practitioner (FNP) ​serves as an administrative and medical resource to MA’s. The Nurse Practitioner (FNP) ​is stationed in the Fitch clinic where she conducts employment and sports physicals, responds to all medical emergencies in the district, and serves on the district wellness committee. She can also ​assess, diagnose, and treat acute medical problems of students and staff in the clinic throughout the day and/or in the Falcon mobile medical van from 7am­9am daily (there is a $20 fee for service provided in the medical van).
