Student Services

Gifted and talented students are those who demonstrate exceptional capabilities that require services beyond the scope of the regular classroom curriculum. The Austintown Local School District provides a continuum of services to nurture exceptional abilities.  We provide gifted service for students with identifications in reading, math, superior cognitive, creative thinking, visual & performing arts and science.  Trained classroom teachers and gifted intervention specialists provide support for students in multiple settings:

  • Identified students in grades K-2 meet with a gifted intervention specialist, daily, in a resource room setting.

  • Identified students in grades 3-8 receive gifted service through language arts and math classes that are taught by a content area teacher who has been trained in gifted instruction.  Superior Cognitively gifted students in grades 3-8 receive service, daily,  in a resource room setting.

  • Algebra I and Physical Science course offerings for 8th grade students

  • Identified students in grades 9-12 have the following course options: Honors, Advanced Placement, and College Credit Plus coursework.  These courses are taught by a content area teacher who has been trained in gifted instruction.

Students identified as gifted will receive a Written Education Plan (WEP) that includes goals tied to a challenging curriculum, as well as, the  social and emotional needs of gifted learners. Parents will receive a copy of the WEP each service year. Progress reports will be sent home at the end of each semester highlighting student growth.
