Student Services
Gifted and talented students are those who demonstrate exceptional capabilities that require services beyond the scope of the regular classroom curriculum. The Austintown Local School District provides a continuum of services to nurture exceptional abilities. We provide gifted service for students with identifications in reading, math, superior cognitive, creative thinking, visual & performing arts and science. Trained classroom teachers and gifted intervention specialists provide support for students in multiple settings:

Identified students in grades K-2 meet with a gifted intervention specialist, daily, in a resource room setting.

Identified students in grades 3-8 receive gifted service through language arts and math classes that are taught by a content area teacher who has been trained in gifted instruction. Superior Cognitively gifted students in grades 3-8 receive service, daily, in a resource room setting.

Algebra I and Physical Science course offerings for 8th grade students

Identified students in grades 9-12 have the following course options: Honors, Advanced Placement, and College Credit Plus coursework. These courses are taught by a content area teacher who has been trained in gifted instruction.
Students identified as gifted will receive a Written Education Plan (WEP) that includes goals tied to a challenging curriculum, as well as, the social and emotional needs of gifted learners. Parents will receive a copy of the WEP each service year. Progress reports will be sent home at the end of each semester highlighting student growth.
